Google doesn't care about quality, SEO is a sham (just a rant)

You are definitely right on that one. Nowadays, most of the search results are spam and there's a serious loophole in their algo for people to take advantage.

Look at the sites that make $100/month from advertising as well (on here in the sites section or on sitepoint) - most of them don't look good at all.

Google's search results are hit and miss these days.. we need an alternative.

Please don't blame it on the system of Google if you are having problems with your rankings. do your best instead of complaining. What's good for you may not seem as good enough to others while for Google, nothing really is as bad as what your ranking is right now. Those who are on top of you might not have done better in their design but for sure to be able to be on top of the results in Google they must have done something better than you did. Think of it!

I love Google. I completely figured it out. There is no "good SEO" anymore. Content is king. My brother was unemployed, so I made him a website and told him to just keep working at it. It started 2 months ago and now it averages 30k uniques a month. Boy, do I love Google. He's just like most webmasters, though, he puts out a few pages of content and whines at not seeing results. I had to be like a drill sergeant, constantly getting him to put in effort, and presto within 2 months he's got a livable income from the site (instead of being unemployed); despite having been skeptic about my methods all along. Hard work, hard work, hard work.

As Google said, the internet is a cesspool. Only Google seems to properly cut through the crap. All the while it seems 95% of content makers are dishonest black hats, and they aren't making a penny thanks to the fine people at Google. There's more money in selling software to black hats, than in running black hat websites (which is why black hats always sell you that "super secret technique that only you can know about for $599") .

Just go white hat, and remember there is no substitute for perseverance. If you make a massive website full of rich, white-hat, RELEVANT content, Google will love you. If you're just yet another webmaster, making yet another website that is nothing more than an attempt at money with no useful content *hint, hint* then google will hate you. Simple as that.

So kudos to Google. I think they're fascist geeks (since they admitted to compiling our info), but I love their search engine nevertheless, especially as a webmaster trying to make a buck off it.

And google does care about quality. I'll see a new term that came out, google will find 50,000 pages extremely quickly, and for the first 3 hours there are some crappy sites in there, but by the next day, it's completely cleaned out and mostly quality results. Google is definitely the king at that process.

    neverbreaktherules,

So you're saying my site is a spam site?
    Are you kidding me?

I have 1 adbrite banner and 1 PG (no nudity) friend finder ad at the bottom of the site.
This site takes a lot of resources as it has over 100,000 pages and is all php and database driven so it has to be run on a good dedicated server. This costs money hence the ads, I don't think I have any more ads than any other free community site including Myspace. You want me to pay for and run this site for free as a charity?
If you're talking about the featured members section that randomly rotates members on each page load than you're an idiot. Those are actual member, if you click on one it takes you to that member's profile. Once in a while you'll find a risque one and when a member is found posting an adult photo in their profile it is promptly removed.

Compare my site to any other chat site and I think you'll find my site has a hell of a lot more options and better quality than any of them, and far less ads.

Furthermore, my site has a 23% bounce rate with an average of 10 minutes spent on site per visit and about 70% of visitor return to the site again, can your sites compare with that?
