Google does not serve more than 1000 results for any query

    They probably just break it off there because after that the results become irrelevant - or, the user should be searching for something more specific.

    Also, they probably have data suggesting people don't search past x amount of pages, so why waste resources.

    1000 results has been standard for a long time. If you're not in the first three pages for a keyword, traffic would be insignificant anyway.

    There vare probably more than 1,000 competitors for any given search term - whether they know they are competing or not.
