I'm sure this has been talked about a little bit already, but I want to weigh in on what this actually means for webmasters and what Google is really trying to do. If you don't already know, Google has pushed these idiots (websites) out onto the plank (and made them jump) to clean up all the malware, crap, worthless, and stupid sites on its Search Results by blocking, or deleting, so to speak, and annihilating over 11 million uncalled for sites, that belong to the CO.cc domains or subdomains. "Google describes these CO.cc domains (which are owned by a Korean company) as a freehost, which offers free or very cheap domains, most of the time, in not all the time, in bulk. So spammers and others alike are naturally attracted to and more likely to have their crappy low-quality sites hosted there." Google had performed a scan on the CO.cc domains, which revealed that they contain a very high percentage of spammy sites within their network. Google then made the decision to ban the entire CO.cc sub-domain rather than penalizing each site individually, which resulted in all of them being removed from the search results. Can I say OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Googles John Mu said it best: "If we see a very large fraction of sites on a specific free host look, are spammy or low-quality, we do reserve the right to take action on the free host as a whole. I think most savvy search/SEO folks would understand this completely, but I figure its better to over-communicate than under-communicate." Can I say OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Again...? This has definitely been welcomed and embraced by a majority of the webmasters in taking back control of the SERPs. Including me.... And I think a reconsideration is possible, but I doubt you'll be able to get back in....lol Basically, the bottom line is this: "FREE IS NOT ALWAYS GOOD".
Actually, most of them are mirror sites and websites that have the same templates in the same server so to speak. Not much of content in their own pages and I really have to say it does quite look a little spammy if you got a .co.cc extention in your URL.
most of them were Scams. so its a Good decision i think. buy from the point of the owners, it was a huge loss.
Another good move by Google but there are just too many other algorithm breakers and site spammers to fight on..
Most of co.cc site just a spam, warez and it's a good decision for google to ban the co.cc. I don't understand why people love co.cc so much, it take only once a year to renew a .dot domain.
Yeah, definitely a great move...I'm very very glad they did it actually, but I'm just one of the several thousands that were glad too. On a side note, this is just another effort by Google to clear out their already spammy looking and $hitty websites shown in the Search Results... Obviously we can't beat Google, so, we have to join them and give them exactly what they want if you want a piece of the pie. GC
Yes. I agree most of the co.cc domains available for free and prone to spam websites. If you are serious then stick only with top level TLDs
and what the compnay is doing? they are still salling thier subdomains for 3$ even if the domains are banned by google. for them the business is as usually......
According to icann ,40% the spam originates from co.cc domains . I hope this single reason is enough to this decision .
It shouldn't come as a surprise, that Google is trying to clean up its search engine results, and it stands to reason that Google wants everyone to have a professional presence
this once again underscores what I've been saying for a long time: .com, .net and .org is way to go if you want to create anything lasting that will make money. and dedicated Xeon servers are way to go - kinda the opposite of free hosting oh, and .me - got a few such sites which are making well over $1k/mo.
