Google ... De-indexing again?

One of my sites dropped from something like 200 pages in the index to 1. I have done nothing other than list this site in my signature on this forum. Which I have now removed. The site had some very relevant one way links, but was gaining links daily as it was recently listed in DMOZ (mostly DMOZ mirrors). Do you think Google viewed those links as SPAM?

This did not happen overnight but took place over four-five google visits. Every time there was a visit the pages that were indexed dropped.

The site still comes 1-3 on SERPS for its keywords

The number of indexed pages often fluctuates. I would suggest to wait a day or two maybe it will be back. I don't think DMOZ nor signatures on this forum can have anything to do with that, but that's just an opinion.

Thanks subseo. It makes me feel better. I hope the pages will come back. Google has been crawling regularly, but to be honest I am worried they de-indexed eveything except the front page! Did you have any similar experience?

I dont suppose Google is de-indexing site again, non of my sites have taken any hits from Google, the no. of pages of each site has preety much remained same over the last week, infact, one of my site which took hit on first de-indexing has be re-included in google with even more pages now then before. In total, the pages listed has gone up from 10,900 to 18k pages now.

    Regards,

    Admans.

Chek your indexed pages on different datacentres. This often varies a lot, so it could be the case that your now just pulling results from a different one.

Check on a number of data centers. Over the course of 4-5 days they all de-indexed!

Hmm, give things some time, a couple of weeks at least. If the situation is still the same then maybe start to worry!

I have had some similar experiences, but it usually corrects itself over a matter of time. Right now, one of my newer sites lost about 10 of its pages in the index, and it has been jumping back and forth, so my guess is that nothing is really seriously wrong.

Yeah, I had a directory, and the indexation fluctuated significantly at the start. Say from 0 to 400 (full), later to 1-6, finally back to 200-400 and anywhere in between.

I would consider this to be the problem, as DMOZ is a corrupt and disfunctionlal mechanism. Wouldnt wonder if Google is penalising that.

I personally think DMOZ is not all that bad, but maybe mismanaged, however, most of the mirrors are really 'bad neighbourhood' that is what actually worried me, if Google started penalizing for that!

Google will not penalize you for appearing in DMOZ mirrors. Don't you think that would take down half of the web in Google results?

If Google had anything against DMOZ, they would first take it off their site (directory.google.com) !

I did not suggest DMOZ is the problem. However, most of the mirrors sound like spam sites...some are advertizing viagra in their meta descriprions! Yes they do! Google's patent clearly describes links from such places may carry a penalty. Also this caused the site to suddenly triple its links in about a week... I am suggesting that google must have applied a penalty to the site..Just trying to find why would this be.

I suggest giving few days of time for things to settle down, my directory has got 18k results in Google, but in between [ last to last week] in had only 600 pages in Google and before that at time of update it had only 10k pages. I suggest, wait and let google do its work. No de-indexing is been done IMHO. Some site may have taken some hits, but i am preety much sure things will fall back in place soon.

    Regards,

    Admans.

There's literally a thousand posts about this in the Google forum on here. It's happening to ALOT of people around the world, and no one seems to know what's going on. One of our sites went from 12K pages eventually down to 1 (the index). Sucks, because all the COOP weight disappeared with it too. :(

This is a great tool for watching the number of indexed pages per DC on google.

It builds a table and displays the history per dc so you can refer back to it.

    That is a good tool.

Do you know what min value -1 means? Some of the DC's are showing -1 :(
