Kind of annoyed atm because I seem to have taken a huge plummet in google for one of my keywords. Simply put I have absolutely no idea why it's happened. I have the same links and content, and my site is a quality site - no spam, no blackhat, original content etc. yet google has decided overnight that I should rank in the 30s for my keyword instead of #5. I know about the recent algorithm change, but when news of it came about my serp traffic INCREASED a LOT. So could this just be google 'dancing' or something? Or am I screwed?
Yeah I hope. But Google just seems to be downranking me - at first I was demoted to somewhere on page 2, now I'm down to page 3.
You must understand there might be websites rank lower than your website before actually got better contents than your website, so after updating, they got better ranking.
Google is changing daily lately it seems they are getting rid of all undesirable sites from front pages, try doing a little more seo on your site add some quality back links etc and you should go back up again
The Google algorithm seems to be in a constant state of flux right now. Just give it some time and wait for things to stabilize a bit.
Changing of rankings now and then is not new. Sometimes you see your ranking on top then after just 3 days or so it will go down and that is really irritating specially if you have goals.
It can actually be a lot more than a few days- don't sweat it, if you are adding content and backlinking without doing anything shady, just keep at it.
I'm in agreement with most here, Google seems to be tweaking their algorithm on a daily (sometimes twice daily) basis. You need to wait it out for a few days, if things haven't improved within a week, then it would be time to re-evaluate your on page optimization, content, and existing backlinks. Sometimes you just have to freshen things up, if you haven't focused on your backlinks in recent weeks/months then a little work could see vast improvements and a return to your previous rankings. If you do all that and things still remain the same, it really is just a case of waiting it out. Google are implementing big changes and it might take a little while before they get things right and running stable.
