Mine have cooled down just a bit the yesterday and today but my CTR was better yesterday than when I had the sudden increase in traffic -- I'll take CTR over traffic :D

OH MY GOD I figured it out. My site was hacked and malicious code was in my header. There was malicious javascript for all the various search bots which had a link to a viagra spam site.

Google's bot obviously saw that stuff and took me right off the SER.

I've never seen anything like that. Is that all they did? They just added a header file? SEO hackers!

I don't know if that's all they did (adding about 10 lines of JS to the header). I'll have to look at a ton of php files to be sure.

That would introduce a whole new area of "SEO hacking". I've never heard of it being done, but I guess I can't be too surprised.

    1. Change your passwords
    2. Check with your hosting company to see if their server was hit with a virus. Interland was hit with a similar virus a few years ago and hundreds of sites picked up malicious code.

If you don't cover these areas, your problem will likely return.

Yes some thing was happening, almost 2 weeks ago my indexed pages went to 77k from 14k then it came back to 19k after few days and then i realised my site is out of sandbox, when search results were increased to 77k i had huge spark of traffic for 5 days but now its normal again well any ways i am happy that alot of fellow members and me to have their sites out of sandbox.

How many sites? Most of the time I've seen these data refreshes impact people with multiple sites it only will impact one site or a tiny percentage of them. If it impacted all of your sites then perhaps there is a trend with those sites that could help figure out what is being accounted for in a data refresh.

I don't see anything happening on my end in terms of traffic.
I notice that my site shows up in the first search page for the keyword Freelance Marketplace.

Hey mate, I just checked for that search on google and could not see your site on page 1 :) with position 7th on google.co.in and 9th on google.com

Well this is an excellent position and you should expect lot of trafic with this.

If you are not getting proper trafic then the search keyword might not be correct and you would have to rework this.

    Regards
    MI
    :)
