I have noticed in google webmaster tools they have allowed custom crawl rate to be set by owner of the site himself

I want to know if i increase crawl rate for my site will it work or not

and how much time it will require to effect changes in google search.

yeh there are minor changed that can be made

The higher your pr the more it gets crawled as a rule of thumb, keep the content fresh aswell

I am afraid to set the max faster rate in google webmaster tools bcoz i want to know that if it really works so first i will arrange a powerfull server for that

my site pr is 3 so if u i keeps the faster crawling rate how much traffic i can expect to be increased

Double, tripple or More than that

I would rather let Google calculate this option.

You only use this option, IMHO, when you think that the googlebots are being lazy, which I think they are not.

If you update your content regularly then bots will see the pattern and come visit your site more often. Break that sequence and it will slow down. Its adjust itself depending on the frequency that you update your content.

If it fails to keep up then maybe you could fiddle with the crawl rate bar or else leave it untouched.

If you have alot of back-links and your adding fresh content on regular basis, then you don't need to worry about the bot rate..
It will visit your site and index your website new pages easily ;)

Hey guys dont try to change ur site crawl rate in google bcoz it will not increase ranking/visitors send from google but will only allow google to update freshness of ur site in google so dont do mistake of increasing crawl rate and select let google determine ur crawl rate.

    >> officialy google says this

However, setting it to higher value than the default won't improve your coverage or ranking.

Just info for those guys who dont understood this properly
