Google's mandate is to search the world's information. But it would seem that with their recent acquisitions that they may have other plans as well. Purely to speculate, I've been trying to piece together their progress so far, and predict where they're going. When you think about it, the current huge tech trends are the following: search - dominated by google crm - dominated by salesforce.com doc management - dominated by microsoft office web analytics - many players, now including google business intelligence - dominated by SAS, cognos, MS catching up data integration - many players With the upcoming calendar, Google will have a powerful email suite, especially considering the fact that it can be domain specific. Add a more robust contact tool, as well as a lead/sales management tool, and you've got a decent CRM - for FREE. Now, add on the fact that you can manage your documents online with infinite storage, and you have one serious collaboration tool. And then of course you'll be able to invoice your clients and accept payments through the Google pay tool. There is enormous profit potential here for Google. Most small businesses would benefit greatly from a CRM, but can't afford Salesforce.com, or don't have the technical resources to implement SugarCRM.
