hmmm.... It was just there a few minutes ago. The search assist showed relevant results as I was typing in. Also in the column next to those words was the search result number.

Maybe they are testing it, but it was live a few minutes ago and now its not. :(

What I saw on Google worked the same as on Yahoo. Start typing in the search box and suggestions were in a gray dropdown box. The only difference is that Google's showed the number of results for the search terms in the dropdown box.

I wonder if they are testing it. From what I saw it worked well. I feel kind of privledged to have caught a glimpse of it.

There is no link. I was on Google.com typing in a word to see if I was still number 4 in the serps, and out comes a gray dropdown box that provided suggestions as I typed. The dropdown box had the info:

    keyword | 1,000,000 Results

The dropdown box had two columns that listed the keyword and results. It worked the same way as Yahoo's, but was not as wide and provided the number of results for each suggested keyword.

I don't dislike Google, I actually like them .. but

Google is bunch of copy cat idiots .. only big innovation i can recall was PageRank.

After that, remember they copied Hotmail and created Gmail, copied MySpace and created Orkut, copied YouTube and made google videos, copied "Your Ad Here.." from AdBrite and implemented into AdSense .. etc etc.

Google has had that for years. It was in Google Labs, and also included in the Google Toolbar for Firefox.

Yes. Google toolbar has had the Suggested Search feature for a long time, which contains both your previous search keywords and what Google thought were "popular" ones. Glad they feel confident now to release it.

The more important thing is, will this change people's behavior enough that more important keywords will become even more popular? If this is true webmasters will need to focus on a smaller set of words so competition might be even stiffer.

I absolutely love Yahoo search assist. I've been using yahoo more than google lately just because of this. I don't think I've done that since the 90s.

What I saw was not on the results page. As I typed in my text on Google.com (the main page), a solid gray dropdown box appeared under the text field. I did not have to hit enter, etc. It appeared as I typed, and the suggested terms were more precise as I completed my text.

I think the importance of this is that Google is playing catch up with Yahoo. Whoever made this feature first is moot. Yahoo bringing it to the general public first is their prize. It appears that Google is now testing their version for the general public as well.

Similar, but the search suggestions were in a solid gray box. And it was on Google.com, not in Google Labs.
