    Hi all,

Google is complaining that my site has duplicate content. The site is using joomla - I am using Sections and Categories.

Has anyone come across this before and how did you resolve it?

    Thanks

I am thinking about moving to Drupal but I cannot find any good upgrade tool and I am afraid I will lose some page ranking.

depends on which problem you have... do you have certain pages that has multiple links to the same page? if so you can try using the canonical tag (search the joomla extensions for plugins for this). or you can use the robot.txt and use no follow on the duplicate links and that should just leave your main page and main link getting the proper rank.

or are you having title issues where you have multiple pages with the same title and/or meta info. i.e. / and index.php and /index.php&something#homepage1 all being the same but google seeing them as 3 different pages even tho they are all the same thing. you could try the built in SEF option or an SEF plugin could help this.

Its not the sections or categories, its the actual content that google is looking at.

The best way to avoid duplicate content, is to post your own original articles. Have you bought articles from other sites and posted them on your site? Have you copied articles from other sites and posted them on your site?

Copying articles and buying articles that have been posted over and over are likely to get your site flagged by google. Its not the sections and categories that the articles were poted in.
