I have a site that is focus to Canada and it is on a .com domain. It ranks well for many keywords on Google.com but the site is not showing up on Google.ca. Do i submit the site to Google.ca because i never did when i was doing my optimization.
Whatever shows up on google.com should be showing up on all other country coded Googles, too. If not, then it's just a waiting game. The only difference is that the country coded sites show more relevant listings/positions for that region.
you can submit your site in google.ca for indexing it. google has all country specific site domain and all shows different results at same time. so don't worry.
I'd recommend buying up the .ca version of the site and duplicating copying the site over. Also make sure the .ca version is also hosted locally in Canada. I wouldn't suggest trying to ruin a good thing as you have now to target .ca as getting rankings on .ca is much easier than .com
login to google webmaster tool account and set your targeted geo as Canada. then try to get backlinks from .ca domains or sites that are hosted on canadian IPs
Domains w/ a non-country code top level domain (non-cc TLD) like .com, .net, .org, .info, etc. are ALL assumed by default to be targeting Google.com. Having a web hosted in the US also further strengthens the clues to Google that you want to rank primarily in Google.com. Domains w/ a country code top level domain (cc TLD) like .ca, .co.uk, .co.in, etc. are ALL assumed by default to be targeting that country's view of the Google index (i.e. Google.ca, Google.co.uk, Google.co.in, etc.). Having your site hosted in that country also gives Google clues that you want to rank in that particular country's view of the Google index. Because your site is a .com it is assumed by Google that you WANT to rank in Google.com, not some country specific view of Google's index. If you would rather rank in Google.ca than Google.com then create an account in Google's Webmaster Tools and verify your site at Google. Once your site is verified, go to the Settings page in WMT and set your Geo Targeting setting to "Canada". This will essentially tell Google that you want to rank primarily in Google.ca instead of Google.com. BEWARE: Sites RARELY rank well in BOTH Google.com and Google.ca, so you need to make a judgement call. If you think that MOST users will be looking for you in Google.com then do nothing. Leave things as they are today. However, if you think that most will be looking for you in Google.ca with the radio button "Pages from Canada" checked, then you should likely set your Geo Targeting setting in WMT to "Canada". You will then want to start building backlinks from other sites that rank in Google.ca (instead of sites targeting Google.com). In otherwords, try to get links from sites with a .ca country coded TLD.
We run into the SEO of .com vs. ca issue many times with clients. I wrote an article on the issue that may help you out. http://blog.9thsphere.com/blog/getting-on-google-canada Best of luck.
For me, ranking in Google.Com is much better than ranking in Google.Ca; I believe that even someone living in Canada still tend to search at Google.Com (I think!)
