Not noticed this until today. Check boxes for 'Web' or 'UK' with the Web ticked. All part of this update that's going on? Pete
they are probably just using geotargetting to make sure you go to the right search engine -- because it certainly doesn't redirect for me
yes, i get it too, ive noticed it for at least a month, its probally a smart move for google to do this.
That's been happening in Australia for over a year....and it's a bloody hassle. If you are promoting into the US or any other country or using adwords you have to use a proxy to see where your site is ranking. Google are turning the world wide web into the local web
I'm not getting the redirect, but it's been happening at some of the client sites that I visit for some time now. My google.com does have a 'Go to Google UK' link, so it obviously knows where I am.
It depends on what PC I am on. On my home PC it redirects to .co.uk but the family PC stays at .com and the laptop stays at .com. My office PC also stays at .com.
There's a simpler way - just add &gl=us to the end of the parameters in the address bar and you'll see the global results.
I've been redirected sometimes too, when I type www.google.com in the address bar it goes to www.google.mu.. why is that?
Everytime I'm at work, I am redirected by Google in a wrong way. My company has a VPN which has servers in Germany and Spain. So when I go to Google I'm either redirected to www.google.de or to www.google.es. I don't speak either German nor Spanish (okay, a little bit German, but not much), so Google keeps redirecting me to pages that are useless to me (because they are in the languages I don't understand). And then, when I search on these pages I get bunch of results in Spanish or German, which are even more useless to me. I must go to preferences and check that I want pages in English language. It was quite hard to figure the preferences in Spanish
It's using geotargeting. It's very bad. Sometimes i don't want my regions results and googles cookies are always blocked at my browsers. I am using proxy
I'm in the UK and yeah, this has been happening for quite some time. I agree with those who think it's a pain. There is a link at the bottom of the Google.co.uk that says 'go to Google.com' or something similar though. Click that and it will take you where you wanted to go in the first place !
