Google.com in coop?

Discussion in 'Co-op Advertising Network' started by SpeedyDomainRegistration, Jun 13, 2005.

Was looking at some coop ads on my site today.

Behold! one of the ads is linked to www.google.com and anchor text of 'Search Engine'

Stikes me as odd that Google would be in our coop.

I doubt they are running ad network ads. You can use your weight for ads for any site you want.

Too bad the ad network doesn't do anything (for or against) the sandbox. :)

I know, but people still believe that,

I would be realllllly funny if google gets banned penalized in google.

If google cannot find google will it implode?

I imagine it's someone who want's to place links to their sites really slowly and uses google ads to spread the weight about.

    LoL, that is funny.

My guess is that someone has more weight than they want to use. Kinda like using :blackhole: for your email.

Ok I know this sounds reasonably mental however I saw "Search Google" ad in my co-op rotation.

    Do google use the co-op?

Yeah, it's basically just a way to dump your weight somewhere when you've got too much and don't want to stick it on your sites all at once. So if you've got 100k weight or whatever and want to put it onto a site, you do it gradually - add a smaller amount each week, and until you put it on you stick the rest on an ad for google or yahoo or something so big you're not going to kick it out of the search engines.

I have also notice a few large companies that I doubt use the Co-op. Anyway if someone has too much weight I would take it off there hands. lol

Hmm, those may have been mine. I have way too much weight, though I did sell my biggest weight site a few days ago. I currently have a few ads that point to yahoo, msn and google so I can more easily distribute smaller amounts of weights to my real targets.

I always did wonder though, will google and yahoo abide by their own rules by gaining too many links too quickly!

Ok , general opinion is that pointing too much wait (whatever that may be) can hurt your site. Why then not point the extra weight to your competition?

Is anyone doing that - and want to share experiences?

Maybe Shawn could build an option for extra-weight-for-charity option?

I'd be wary of trying to point it at the competition because 1) you're never 100% sure it's going to hurt them instead of just bump them ahead of you and 2) that's just asking to get kicked out of the coop. I've never seen anything about it in the terms of service, but I can't see them letting you go around trashing other people's sites. Not to mention the legal risk that would subject you to - if the people you're targeting are making any kind of money and find out, you're risking a lawsuit.
