Yeah it is weird, I have comcast -- this is the first time this has happened to me. I knew something had to be up though because I was still getting tons of traffic / sales / phone calls from people from google -- yet I could not access google. My gmail is now working with thunderbird, but google.com is still not resolving. Weird part is the images and news search resolve fine.
You might have a problem with your internet settings. I would suggest downloading Windsock XP. Run that and it might fix the problem. Once I was unable to visit Ebay and a few other sites for a month and when I ran winsock it fixed the problem.
Hmm ok ill try, its happening to all 4 computers in my home network, do I have to run it on all computers? I don't get why this would start happening out of nowhere thogh. Edit : well I really hope its just a problem with my ISP... It is now only working on one computer, none of my laptops. It is being very weird, only certain things on google working like news and images, but images doesn't show any of the images. I tried winsock xp fix, didn't work =(. You guys think I should call comcast or just wait it out?
Well I can connect to google without a problem when I go directly to their IP address : 64.233.187.99 For example it connects instantly.. Is it safe to say this is a DNS problem on comcast's end since I can get to the sites via IP without a problem? Joe
It appears many people are having problems with comcast today -- I just found a forum with a thread from today discussing it - http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r18736194-Anyone-having-trouble-with-YAHOO?r=387#18738614 Also thanks for the OpenDNS tip, for some reason though, that is not fixing the problem either it is very weird. Using comcast's DNS servers, and OpenDNS, google.com would work randomly, about 10-20% of the time. But when I go to the IP http://64.233.187.99/, it works perfect 100% of the time. I a just happy to know I am not alone in this and the problem has to be with them.
yes i think google could be currently updating pagerank b/c one of my sites recently jumped up in pr. anyone else
Yep, back in 05. They were redirecting to another site for a while, a search engine called SoGo or something if I remember but it ended up being a DNS problem with google resolving to the them instead of google. Anyway it is all fixed it was a region problem with comcast that was affecting norther florida / ATL , among other places.
Yep, it was comcast cause the same thing happened to me this morning. I didn't know what was happening at first because I've never not been able to access Google before.
