    Hi Fellow DP'ers,

Just a hypothetical case... (of course, it won't happen in a million years.)

IF Google and Yahoo were selling their domains "Google.com" and "Yahoo.com" alone (ie. nothing else but the domain name), how much will they fetch? Any thoughts?

I am using a few websites to estimate the value of these 2 domains and the results varies a lot. Which website do you trust more?

    abouturls.com shows: Google 3.2Billion, Yahoo : 1.5 Billion
    stimator.com shows: Google: 147Million, Yahoo:174million
    cubestat.com shows: Google 2.1Billion, Yahoo: 1.09Billion
    websiteoutlook.com shows: Google: 2.41Billion, Yahoo: 1.2Billion

By the way, which one values your site more accurately? Please list your domain name and your annual advertising revenue.

I'd say that even if Google or Yahoo sold their domain names and only their domain names they would get atleast a billion. The domain name is what all of their marketing and advertising comes down to. EVERYONE knows Yahoo and Google. So even if you didn't have their servers, corporate buildings, employees, website scripts and everything else... You would STILL make millions of dollars from the traffic and Brand recognition.

It depends if G sold their urls and then said ok our S.E is not on xyz.com..

then everyone will no doubt start to use xyz.com instead of Google..

so in that scenario I would doubt the url alone would be worth more than 10 million..

but like you said.. if as that would ever happen.. although with Microsofts tie up with Yahoo maybe Yahoo will become obsolete like the once glory day search engines like sxcite.com and altavista..
