Nice :) Did you try messing around with the API?

As I understood it the API was for the AJAX bit so I didn't bother with that.

I thought I read it was actually possible to mess (fine tune ;)) the actual results. The AJAX part is that it's the AJAX API which replaced the SOAP API last month.

Did you find any benefits (e.g. increased traffic) from creating this customized search tool?

It got a handful of backlinks. Didn't really promote it though.

I was thinking of using it for a personal resource more than anything also. I like the way you can filter most of the 'noise' out of a serach and concentrate on the sites you're interested in.

I gave this tool a try and it didn't seem to give any preference to the websites I listed, I just got back normal google results. Which doesn't really do me much good if I wanted to promote my own sites and earn revenue off it.

If you set it to only use the sites you submit then it only returns those sites.

To fine tune the results, you can play with the BOOST mode and the weight attribute in the context file for some labels you've attributed to the URL patterns (in the annotations label file) you want to promote or demote.

    http://www.google.com/coop/docs/cse/cse_file.html

You can also use the score attribute in the annotation file, but it's trickyer

Note sure my explanation is clear

I created one for searching SEO blogs and Forums
