Even though the data centers of Google use a tremendous amount of energy, Google have always claimed that they were much eco-friendlier than the others. Many technology and environmental experts has already accused Google of being an “energy hog†as well as a “bandwidth monsterâ€. But here is a special report on TechThunder that is surely going to surprise you. Here is the link to the article: http://go.techthunder.in/google-eco-friendly
I don't trust eco stats that come directly from a company. They obviously skew things in favor of their company to impress shareholders and potential investors. For example, the chart that lists the equivalent number of google searches to match the CO2 output of other things....how do we trust this data? Do they include the electricity used on the end users' side? Do they include the electricity used by the isp? It seems like most companies' eco initiatives are little more than public relations gimmicks. The guys running things probably don't give a damn about the environment. Someone in marketing convinced them that with all the focus on the environment these days, a company needs to be eco friendly to impress people. Then they go round bragging how great they are for the environment.
