Before, single letter domains used to be available, just like 2 letter and 3 letter domains. They can not be bought new anymore, and only people who had them before the update will keep them.

That is the smallest possible domain name you can get lol (unless you use other letters/2-char extension).

 

This is the first time i hear some one has actually bought/registered a one letter domain. the people at Google mean business...
