i think the war has started with Google Checkout and Ebay/Paypal. Just checking on the payment privacy policy of Ebay, Google Checkout is not permitted as a payment service. What will be next counter-attack of Google?

They have a right to limit payment types and support their compaines. Who knows, maybe they are just waiting for it to mature.

Ebay is being childish. They know very well that Google is a respectable company with $$$ billions in the bank.

eBay/Paypal don't need Google Checkout, but Google Checkout needs eBay.

Why are you insulting eBay Inc. and siding with Google Inc. instead of being just neutral?

Google Checkout is not the only payment service not being allowed on eBay.

I feel that google checkout needs to become mature to compete with ebay. But the competition started is good.

    nb.

It's true it's not the only payment service not being allowed, but they will get more attention since Google is so well known.

I went to sign up for google checkout but couldn't find anything for subscriptions.

And it's also in its beta version.

Plus it said its available for the U.S. only but they will add more countries.

Plus, they wanted my social security number and I read something about them wanting to do a credit check on me.

I don't remember paypal wanting to do a credit check until I signed up my site as a Paypal Shop.

I don't know, I've been pretty happy with Paypal, the 4 - 5 years I have been with them and hadn't had any chargebacks at all or any problems with customers.

I guess it all depends if u sort out stuff with ur customers yourself.

    So lets see what happens.

They have had froogle, and a whole lot of stuff lately but I really haven't been a part of much except for the search.

As for search, msn is going quite good for me, and I find myself searching on it almost as much.

I mean, who uses Yahoo wallet or msn passport and all of those other payment sites.

so lets see where things fly.

But paypal has a Solid Rock Reputation right now.

Maybe, but they don't have a history of playing a role of (merchant or middleman) between buyer and seller.

Now for people worried bout spyware, adware, xxxx ware.

Google Analytics ---->Detailed info to all aspects of ur site goes to google. Number of visitors, where they are coming from, what they see, how long they are there, ect, etc,etc

Google Sitemaps ---->Google knows what your site looks like, and still, i find my new pages indexed faster on msn.

Google Toolbar ------>Now Google knows your browsing history. Your browser, operating system, what sites u visit, how long u browse...................

The only things now left, is your home address, social security number, workplace, telephone number etc, etc, etc, Well hello Google Checkout.

This came from the Ebay accepted payments policy page

Paypal, has close to 10 years of outstanding track record, is FDIC insured, and over 100 Million members strong.

Visa, Mastercard, Discover and Amex have many years of track record.

Ebay bought Paypal a few years bak, and they would like people to use Paypal, and don't want the comeptition.

Just like, on sponsored Google Ads, merchants which use Google Checkout will have a seal saying this merchant uses Google Checkout. They won't have one saying this merchant used Paypal.

    The way it currently goes.

The #1 Marketplace in the world at this time is Ebay.

The #1 Payment processor is Paypal.

So lets see where things fly.

When Checkout has more customers, starts doing subscriptions and is offered in more countries, I will surely try it out.

I have clients from all around the world, so Paypal helps me in that aspect.

But until then, I'm putting it on hold.

eBay has had a nice long run without and real compitition for a very long time.. they have an monopoly in the online auction space. It's about time someone came along to shake things up...
