I'm currently developing a facility to buy goods online and wanted to obtain opinions as to the merits of Google Checkout versus PayPal.

I expect to sell 2 or 3 items per month costing $1000 - $2500 each. I expect the majority of sales from the USA, but enquiries may also originate from elsewhere in the world

Should I choose PayPal, Google Checkout, both of them or should I be looking at something else?

If the vendor is from US or UK they can use google checkout. I think any buyer from anywhere can purchase through google checkout.

That's the main reason why I prefer Google Checkout. Oh and their fees are 2 times lower than those of Paypal.

Yes US and UK vendors have the chance to get the advantage of Google checkout. Its cheaper than paypal, but I think you better implement both because its good to let a customer to make a paypal payment also. As I know google checkout still doesn't accept a paypal payment.

PayPal still has more international appeal right now and many many more people are using it, so it is still preferred for me.

I prefer both of them as paypal is more widely used internationally but google checkout is for those countries that don't offer paypal so its better if you use both of them

I use authorize.. However, I've used both paypal and google checkout and I like google checkouts interface better than paypal. As far as accepting payments, I didn't have a problem with either.

If you're sure that most sales will be from the US, then for with g checkout.
If you plan on expanding and making payment flexible for your customers, then use paypal. Its become sort of an industry standard

With such a high unit price, you should probably be looking at using an escrow service, such as www.escrow.com. Even a single charge-back on a product being sold at $2500 is gonna hurt...

I use paypal because checkout is still not available for my country, but if it becomes available I will try it.

I have been using Moneybookers as well .

Tried Google checkout but none of buyers are interested in paying through that medium :D so never used that..

PayPal is definitely one of the most popular payment systems available online!
It supports much more countries internationally, compared to Google Checkout (which support only I think US and UK).
My absolute recommendation goes to PayPal of course :)

True, and add 2CO on top of the list, that's how one should do to cover as much of the customer preferences as reasonably possible.

Rumor has it that Google may be closing down the checkout program, wouldn't count too much on it. Most companies can't make a go of a payment service, Microsoft and Yahoo already tried, seems paypal is the focus.

Google Checkout is pretty good, I dont think they will shut down. As for 2co they have a high fee!
