To quote an official reply from Google to someone on another forum, "At this time, only merchants with a U.S. address and bank account can process transactions through Google Checkout. We look forward to offering more options in the future." I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. But I'm sure it will come out as an exciting service to us all.

I'd rather use Western Union than 2CO. Even accept the WU charges on my end if necessary.

I should have probably come up with a reason as well as an alternative in the first place, sorry.

Reason? I believe their anti-fraud strategy is over-planned. They have denied every single payment of mine to other 2CO account holders that I made with my UK credit card while abroad.

Their rejection email was stating the IP vs bank address differences, and my transactions have been filtered even though they were perfectly fine in my view - I paid with my credit card, I was the card holder and the money belonged to me. Well, I expressed my intention to buy a product and my payment was rejected. On repeated occasions.

It reached the top after I paid to actually register for a 2CO account myself and payment was rejected again. Isn't that a sign that getting a 2CO account will not guarantee you access to buyers' money that don't use Paypal?

Alternative? I use Paypal and WU, and looking forward to seeing Google Checkout in action.

Do you have the same problem when using the UK card when you are in the UK using the UK card address?

I used to use paypal until I had endless amounts of chargeback’s.

Nope, payments are just fine within the UK but this means my credit cards are rendered useless while abroad, although the Visa guarantees international usage, well.. This is just a personal experience, I find their security measures to be exagerating sometimes. Why not let the seller decide whether the payment was fraudulent or not together with the cardholder. Afterall, my credit cards were registering debits, and then refunds after 2CO's notice of apparent fraud.. What's the point..

    Whats your business?

I have done around 500-700 transactions about 30,000$ and not a single chargeback.

Just selling on eBay really ... sold a £300 prada jacket.. That got charged back... sold a £250 watch ... that got charged back ... sold a pair of jeans for £75 that also got charged back.

I believe its becoming common that people are maxing out there credit card on eBay and then a when there statement arrives they deny all transactions.

Well, this is sad.. I guess Paypal is useful to some extent. Selling tangible goods via Paypal may not be a good idea, but when it comes to selling digital products or services, the situation can be different. If you can prove delivery, you got to keep the money.

Wirecard may be an alternative for sending money worldwide. Like Paypal they provide P2P services, but the service is limited in the amount of money you can send (same as with WU) - if you exceed a certain limit they require full identification (which is cumbersome)

Hopefully G.checkout will screw paypal's monopolistic tactics, however there Some good option already available for UK- worldpay, chronopay, protx, moneybookers, barclay etc.

I would quickly cross Worldpay, protx and ePDQ from Barclays. Somewhat complex setup work, and monthly fees (compared to Paypal which is free, still)!
Moneybookers' coverage is not great, and I don't know much about chronopay.. So yes, G Checkout is what I'd really want to see in action. US customers using it say it is promising. I'm just sitting there waiting for them to touch base with the UK market.

Any updates? I noticed Google Payments Limited is a registered company in the UK and they're registered with the FSA.

Google Checkout’s launching in the UK today in fact its launched although you have to go to checkout.google.com to get registered.

We've been playing with it for months now and reckon most of the bugs are ironed out, anyone need and help installing the gateway give us a shout.
