I think they need to, their stock price is falling, and they will need to compete with Mahoo! (Microsoft + Yahoo ;) )

I am sure it is true. The results are so spammy these days, they have woken up to the fact that they are becoming uncompetitive (in search results) with Yahoo (which has excellent search results).

Google not competitive with Yahoo.... HUH...really. now I got to do some test ;-)

As long as your sites are active, have good quality and all the content is original and relevant to your title tags etc. you should not fear any changes at Google. You need to be adding content and new links on a regular basis. If your site become stagnant your will fade in the SERPS

True - they change it a lot. But I heard they are making a few large changes soon. Hope it's nothing too crazy.

Yahoo is much more "spammy" than Google. I think most people prefer to use Google than Yahoo, take a look here:

The only reason why Yahoo is so popular is because their Yahoo news, finance, answer, email, and other crap stuffs. Yahoo search engine is not popular. If Microsoft buys Yahoo, everything will become worse for Yahoo. Take a look at live.com, an expired domain even can get the first rank in competitive SERPs. This is simply stupid.

It's certainly true that google is, by far, the #1, but the quality of the search results was constantly decreasing over the last years. The algo makes it extremely easy for large, popular and trusted sites to flood the index with subdomains/subpages that aren't related to the topic of the main site and dominate a board range of serps by exploiting the main domains authority.

Google is trying to improve their search results. They want to make changes to keep worthless spammy sites from getting top positions. But it is a complicated problem, so they have to keep working.

But remember -- their goal is to improve the search results. So any changes are for this purpose.
