Google Caching problem

Discussion in 'Google' started by misch.chief, Dec 10, 2007.

    Hello,

Google hasn't re-cached my website since June. Is it because it is busy with all of it's updates?

Is there a way to encourage it to re-cache a website?

    AND

How is it ranking me for new keywords I have implemented after this time if it still thinks I have the old keywords?

    The webiste is www.mooreblatch.com

    Any help appreciated!

    Many thanks,
    SEMrush

    Hi,

    Have you put into place a sitemap.xml and a robots.txt ?

The first one will allow Google to see which pages have been updated easier.
The second one will allow or not the crawlers (or spiders) to visit each folder on your website.

If you don't know how to do that, this is not very hard to learn (you'll need an hour not more!!). It is always useful to have these 2 files and to keep them up to date.

That's the 1st thing I would look at to solve your problem.

    Hi Mischa,

It's not exactly like what you're saying.
For example if youcheck this page of yours mooreblatch.com/individuals/ you will see that it has been cached in September. So maybe it's your home page that hasn't been cached recently.

Try "Set crawl rate" - "Faster" in Google Webmaster Tools

Thanks guys/girls for that, you are right it is just my homepage which is baffling me! I haven't got a sitemap.xml or a robots.txt file and will add one this week.

Many thanks, any other theories are still useful as well though, thanks a lot

You can access the webmaster tools via any google account.
If you already have a google accout, go to my account and you should see the the tools on their list of services.

It's easy to set up. You'll need to let google verifying your site by uploading a file or by adding a specific meta tag and then that will give you access to interesting tools (backlinks listing, stats about the requests for which your site appeared with the position ...).

I think your real problem is Googlewashing.
    Try this query:
    http://www.google.com/search?q="Moo...+law+firms+with+offices+based+in+Southampton"
The second listing is this page:
    http://www.freedir.co.uk/directory/category/solicitors/page_s~5.php
You are third on the list, it shortcuts to further down the page. Click on it.
See the yellow and black bar? Click on it.

Seems to be the entire spidered content of your page... not good.
You also might try to find the link ending with ?person=49 and kill it.

    hi

    check out : http://www.google.com/webmasters/
You should see a notice about it on the left hand side.

Everything i so customised that it's getting hard to compare things ...

once you've sign up with the webmaster tools, you'll see them directly in 'My Account' section.

Thank you very much for this for this post - it seems closer to what the actual problem is - I have seen the query strong URL www.mooreblatch.com/?person=49 before and thought that could be it, but our developer states that is not our problem, but Google's - i think that's problem.

With regards to Googlewashing, that is a listing inputted by the company when they had their old domain name mooreandblatch.com - so it is legit, however do you think having the sitemap listed is harming us?

I can't find a way to exclude the listing which might be a problem, it is also very stupid!

Anyway thanks for your help - I am going to ask Google if they can remove the page, do you think that is a good idea, we can't find any trace of that page on the site.

    Best regards,

    Mischa

    Update:

We have added a permenant redirect to the page www.mooreblatch.com/?person=49

As well as this we have requested to remove the page from the Google Index, with a bit of luck this should work.

Thanks everyone, that is a great help.
