Hi. Google just updated my cache. Ok, what's unusual about that you may ask? Well, my cache used to only be two days behind in Google. Then, all of a sudden some time earlier this month my cache reverted to a cache over a month old. And, it stayed that way since. No update in cache even though I made changes to the site. Well, less than 48 hours ago I completely redesigned my web site. Guess, what? Google updated my cache already and has the new "look". Just thought I'd share. Melanie
Now that you mention this ... same thing happened to my site too .... middle of the week (Around the 24th or so), the cached pages for my site reverted back to the ones from the 15th of August. Then, on the 26th, G was showing the pages cached on the 24th, but now it's finally cached the pages as they should be (as of friday) ..... I think they lost 10 days worth of cache somehow ... and must've restored the cached pages from a back-up.
I received an email from Google in regards to a very similar situation. They said they were going through some changes and that this type of this was to be expected.
Sounds like almost the same thing as I've mentioned here: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=2629 The number of indexed pages have jumped a LOT the last couple of days. from 22.5k up to 26k.. (back to 23.6k right now) New and old caches appear and disappear all the time..
my sites cache occasionally switches to older pages - last time ( about a couple of months back ) it went to one aalmost a month old - i think it happens quite a bit but only pages that frequently update notice it. If you recall from some of my earlier posts, my sites dropped from the face of the earth. Using DP's tracker, I noticed that 13 search terms that were very geographically located and had little competition vanished. There was a thread started here Cached Snapshot Gone So I decided to email Google, and remove myself from the LinkPartners program (I never did confirm it was a LinkPartners issue). Google emailed me a response. Not sure if I should post the entire content of the email, so I will post snippets. If you noticed your cached snapshot went funny, my advice, just ride it out. Here is what G said: As you may know, our search results change regularly as we update our index. Normal changes you observe may include, but are not limited to, addition of new sites, changes in the ranking of existing sites, sites falling out of the index or getting dropped for particular keywords, and fluctuation between old and new webpage content. We realize these changes can be confusing. We currently include over four billion pages in our index, and it is certainly our intent to represent the content of the internet fairly and accurately. We cannot guarantee that any page will consistently appear in our index or appear with a particular rank, nor can we comment specifically on programs such as LinkPartners. We do, however, offer guidelines for maintaining a 'crawler-friendly' site. You can find these guidelines at http://www.google.com/webmasters/guidelines.html. Following these recommendations may increase the likelihood that your site will show up consistently in the Google search results. Regards, The Google Team Pretty straight forward, I think that virus wreaked havoc on them.
I've finally seen a shift in my inurl on Shawns Keyword Tracker... I recall shawn saying this only happened when the backlinks got updated?? so maybe something is happening.
Yes, cache's used to be fairly up to date, now it seems that they are around 2-3 weeks old, cache update 4 Aug, and then updated 20 Aug. Theres a patten emerging when Google updates my cache around 3-4 times a week, then the following day it goes back to the cache of around 2-3 weeks old. This patten has been since June / July 2004. Also my pages of around 2 to 3 months old don't have a PR update yet, so there's obviously problems / changes afoot.
I noticed one of my new sites made a big jump last week (around the 25th) in the rankings for a phrase I've been working on.
Google seems to have lost the last couple of weeks' cache for my sites. The cached pages being displayed are those from the end of August. There must be some problem with the site 'cos my entire site was crawled this weekend and I thought that the cached pages would be from the 12th or 13th of September, and not the 28th of August as they are. This has happened to me before too, just wondering if anybody else has had the same problem.
See my post at top of this page i think it happens more often than you would think- as i said above though - if you didn't update your site quite often you wouldn't always notice it happening.
