    hi

i have registered my business on google but dont quite understand when/how it determines if your business displays on local/relevant searches. The website is websiteandmarketingcompany.co.uk and its under google businesses but if i search for a website company in topsham/exeter it doesnt appear (as a business listing or organically) - can anyone give me any pointers as its a very nche category?

thanks for the reply. Yes my question is how are the busines listings activated. So for example if i type in car service exeter it lists all the local car service companies but if i type in web design exeter it just shows organic results?
    thanks

I am no expert, but a LOT of people make a ton of money by offering to list other peoples' business in Google Business Listing. Local of course. I don't do the online version but the offline version. I charge an extra $500 per listing with a few local companies in my area.

    Its simple and it works!

If you have given the information about the location of your company, then Google will display it for the local results. Google Places is a great platform for listing your business information as the location is also displayed in the search results.

Neil, if Google thinks that your search query has local intent, it will most likely provide Google maps results.
For example, if you search for "dentists SF bay area".
However, if it thinks that it's not that important for you where the service provider is located (or if there aren't that many in every location around the world), it may just provide regular results.
My guess is that some types of businesses are marked as local on Google (businesses distributed more a less evenly through neighborhoods , such as restaurants, laundries, etc.)
Try typing some other generic terms associated with your biz when you check your google ranking.
I doubt you'll get any local results.

When you submit your business listing in Google. Google always send a code. have you activate your listing with that code.Your listing will not be shown until you activate your listing.

    Thanks

There are many factors on ranking in google's map. But having your business name, address and phone number listed correctly is a great start.
