Google 'Burning' Money?

I tried an experiment yesterday in the hope of picking up some additional business from the USA!

My daily budget usually runs out between 7pm and 9pm which, as we are UK based, means we miss out on a lot of US business.

So last evening I doubled my budget to see if my US specific keywords would get a higher CTR.

My expected results were far from the truth.

I had expected to see my USA Ad Group either have an increase in hits or not see too much activity.

Well, I found that my USA Ad Group had no increase at all, infact it was down a bit, yet my budget had been totally used up by the time I checked this morning.

Yes, my CTR had virtually doubled but with no significant increase in enquiries.

Just feeling a bit hard done by and feel a 'conspiracy theory' coming on!!

Any thoughts, comments or similar experiences?

Did you limit your UK group to the UK and the US group to the US? That way budget from one shouldn't be spent on clicks in the other one.

They are not seperate campaigns just seperate ad groups so they cannot have seperate budget. Can they?

OK so there may have been 1 or 2 people on the internet in the UK searching at 3am but not many. Yes there would have been other countries awake when I was sleeping but the keywords are VERY specific!

Just think that, as the budget was there, Google used it!!

Yes, they will use up eagerly what is available. It's called 'smart pricing' (read: smart for their investors pockets).

Split them into campaigns to keep your money where it belongs.

'Smart pricing' is about how much will costs a single content Ad click and is not related with a period budget use and also is not related with search network use.

If you learn more about it maybe you will see that Is something that protect our interest directly more then Google's interest.
