As imposing as Google's new Oregon data center is, when it opens it will only a piece of a worldwide computing system known as the Googleplex, which is tied together by strands of fiber optic cables. What???? Can we have some hard facts please Google's Income in Q1 2006 is $2.2 billion http://investor.google.com/fin_data.html Microsoft income Q1 2006 is $11.5 billion http://www.microsoft.com/msft/earnings/FY06/earn_rel_q3_06.mspx ... and Microsoft diversifies, so is in a much more comfortable position.
Well the topic was discussing data center size and infrastructure...in which Google is spanking Microsofts rear end. Google is doing well total profit margin wise based on the fact that they aren't selling hundreds of thousands of copies of an operating system, and most of their services are free . I apologize.
There is a very interesting article here about google building numerous football sized computer centres. Very interesting.
Google is secretly developing what is thought to be one of the world’s most powerful supercomputers in its most ambitious attempt to outstrip rivals Yahoo and Microsoft. The internet firm is building a vast complex the size of two football pitches with cooling towers four floors high on a remote stretch of barren land in Oregon.
