This is a good move and benefits for user and a big plus for well known brands to take this advantage. However, this could be a disaster for smaller brand by this unfair advantage. They could lost some of traffics from relative keywords because of this new brand links implemented.

Example - When you do searches for "car" then this five brands appeared - smart Honda Nissan Toyota Ford. What about smaller brand that do optimizing for this keywords, may be several years and found it could be a big wasted because of this branding disadvantage.

I think Google would implement geo-location based in a soon. I am living in the country that has no car with a brand "smart" anyway, so this results is not benefits to me personally. If the implement done, we will see a more disasters happens to local brands - smaller companies.

As an internet user, I think it's a worthless feature. Seeing "Ford | GM | Chevy" at the top of the page is entirely worthless and going back to the day of super short-tail keywords. I know Ford's website exists, so I'd just visit it if I wanted to. If I'm searching for faucets, I already know about the Moen company, and I'd just visit their site if I wanted to. Being a customer, I already know that the products being sold on their site will be marked up to hell, which is why I'd rather find an "internet deal" outside of the corporate site. That's why I'm not too concerned about this stuff.
