    This has been discussed before. I can't be true. There is no way a teller would know the balance in Google's account.

    Look at the first line in the quote. The writer wanted to cash the check and take the cash without waiting a few days for the check to clear. The teller would not do it because there was not enough money in the writer's account to cover the check. The writer has to wait a few days for the check to clear. This is standard banking procedure.
