And other search engines included; I'm working on a site and was viewing their webalizer stats. A guy is telling me that 70% of the hits it shows are probably from "bots" seeking information. Now I know somewhat how it works, but is that number even anywhere near accurate? The site is local org and gets around 1 million hits a month. Hits vary month to month depending on the activities. One month it may get 17k and another 100k. Those seem too different to give all the credit to bots.
Depends on the site to be honest, if your site has loads and loads of pages and loads of files for each page but dont have much traffic then yeah that is very likely, but on the other hand if you dont have many pages and it only uses 1 file per page and you get loads of visitors then that figure would be way way off. My advise to you is webalizer stats suck compared to awstats, get awstats up and running and you will have a much better idea whats going on with your websites traffic. http://awstats.sourceforge.net/ Google Analytics is very good also. http://www.google.com/analytics/
Awstats is installed as well, I will take a peak at those. I just took control of the site and need to add some SEO keywords as it didn't even have any keywords setup. Just looked at the Awstats and wow there is no close comparison between that and Webalizer. Thanks for that. The hit stats look very different.
