Google Bots Use Mozilla?

I'm not very familiar with the details on how search engines work. I know they send out little bots that crawl your site for content, keywords, etc.. and they rank you according to what they find out.

As far as how the bots operate I have no clue. I just notice on my site page-load stats that googlebot visited my site, and the stats indicated that it uses mozilla for a browser. Is this true? Why would google use mozilla, if it has its own platform?

    Or are my stats wrong?

Hmm that's weird... maybe a Google employee was using one of Google bot's IPs/servers with Mozilla and browsed your site manually. Could be their software uses the Mozilla coding, or your stats may be wrong...

Well if im not mistaken, Chrome, is basically a modified version of Firefox, but to be honest I don't know. I thought it was a bit strange.

There will probably be multiple browsers to check things.
