Doesn't seem strange to me, the page that comes up is pretty relevant to the search term IMO.

Didnt really think it was 'strange' as such, just figured with owning google + blogger and all that they would probably be sitting at the top for that term.

+ yes the other site is completely relevant ;)

This is where Google gets some real credit - just because they own, build, host, etc. doesn't mean that they don't have to play by their own rules.

If all of their products and pages ranked at the top it would leave no room for the rest and would quickly turn off researchers, not just webmasters, IMO.

I like that they don't rank at the top of their own engine all of the time - it tends to show a little humility and honesty - okay, and maybe restraint too :)

I agree its reasons like that (and the miserable failure) that keep people coming back imo. I can understand them not ranking for 'blog' and similar but 'google blog' - the most relevant has to be their site, as it IS the google blog. They must have to have checked their serps and noticed. Maybe they should advertise with the coop :D

site:google.com shows 6.2 million pages. 6.2 million pages, plus a PR10, would give SO much weight, that we'd probably never see anything but their ads. :p

Aaron Swartz's blog has a ton of BLs including the first one of Googleblog's "What we are reading" section :) I guess it's good to have a name that starts early in the alphabet ;)
