Google bites themselves in the butt...

I don't know how much google makes from every click I get but I guess it is the most of what the advertiser pays.
I had a site that was making roughly $500 a day from google ads, but the site was removed from their index, God knows why!
If I was making $500 a day, that's 15,000 a month so google just lost how much?????? If they keep on removing sites like that how much do they loose every month? 150,000? 1,500,000???????

it depend on the how you get those click. If there is click fraud involved, G would not mind lossing their 1500000 cause those advertiser will sue them

Do a search on "supplemental results" here...It is a temporary issue and should be resolved. (General advice without seeing your site)

I had a site with 5,000 pages of original content that dropped to 200 (It has gone back and forth over the last 2 weeks)

    Be Patient

He didn't say he was banned, he is saying his indexed pages were dropped (I think)

    It's a temporary issue.

I had a site with 1,000 pages of original content that dropped to 105 and it came back yesterday in google index, so just wait for some time.......

The site was removed and I have been emailing Google about it but all you get is their canned answer where it say "Read the guidelines...." so I guess before you even creating a web site you read their guide lines and THEN you start creating your pages.
As far as I know I did nothing wrong and it was well indexed in Google but with this new update there was something in there that Google didn't like so it seems that whatever we have out there we need to go back and change every time Google makes an update, especially if we are well indexed because the reason we are well indexed might be something Google has changed in their algo and we drop out or drop down...

Mike, cmon and be more forcioming than that. Google WILL tell you outright if your site has or has not been penalised. What they will NOT do is tell you why, and as far as your comment "so I guess before you even creating a web site you read their guide lines and THEN you start creating your pages" DAMN RIGHT YOU SHOULD. In ANY game you want to play, the first thing you do is learn the rules, personally there is nothing in the google guidelines that you shouldn't be doing anyhow.

Too many people complain about this that or the other when they have tried to cut corners with hideen text of css off page positioning, java redirects, duplicate content cross linking etc. I am not saying this is the case with yourself, but what I WILL say is that I have never known of a site being banned from google for no reason. The bans are algorithmic, and it is a damn fine algo.

Finally in answer to your question of how much google will lose, the answer is not a sausage! How? Simple For every page google throw out, there will be another to take its place moving up in the serps.

If you want to PM me the url and any history/changes you have made since the ban I willtake a look and give you some free advice.

Thanks old welsh guy!! I'll do that! Got a day time job I need to tend to first:(
Just a quick note. If you are not a professional web developer then you probably don't know that there is a thing like a Google Guidelines and no scholl that I have attended for creating web pages has ever told me about them. I guess that should be a chapter in every web development school from now on!

But the flip side is that someone has your spot in the serps and is probably pretty happy about it. And if they are running AdSense too, it will all balance out.

When serps go through a big update (whether it is Google, Yahoo or MSN) some sites will make less with AdSense but other sites will be making more, so it likely evens out in the end in terms of what Google makes.

And it is worth noting that your AdSense income plays no part in Google search determining where your site ranks. So whether your site earns $1000 a day or $1 a day today, it will have no bearing on your search rankings. Yes, publishers would like it if AdSense earnings gave their sites a boost in the serps, but that is not exactly fair to all webmasters and so it is something that Google does not do.

That said, serps fluctuate all the time, so you could see your rankings back if it isn't a penalty issue.

One of my sites dropped a couple of months ago from 13k unique visitors a day down to 4k unique visitors a day. It dropped from page one for most of its SERPS to pages five through twenty.

I wrote Google and they told me that my site was not being penalized.

I have come to believe that Google doesn't know much more about itself than we on the outside do.

I have been lucky. I have never been treated badly by Google's and any other search engine. I have never read any search engine's guides for publishers. I get the ranking I deserve, given the originality of each individual site. I have paid attention to information and cautions about site design and content that I have encountered here and elsewhere over the past decade. Some has been very useful. Some not.

But, MikeSwede, why worry. As you said in another post recently with respect to who is clicking on your ads:

I've learned to bring traffic from multiple sources so I don't rely on Google for my income. Even though my rankings dipped a bit since the last update it had only a slight impact on my overall traffic and it has forced me to look at new ways to bring traffic to my site other than search engines. It had to hurt losing that kind of income however, if the site gives your visitors a unique experience, then they will come back.

why does it seem that Google is losing their minds lately? They have unique way of changing their algorithms and expecting for marketers to be able to keep up. It's not fair but if we want to bring in revenue from Google. We have to abide by it. That's part of reason why I'm getting away from Google right now and going more towards paid advertising.

They are definately only thinking about the clicks on their ads. What they don't realize is that the larger companies like Amazon, Overstock, etc will advertise regardless of what their rankings are. By dropping the smaller merchants from the top of the page creates less advertising because the smaller merchants aren't making any money to justify it. I know I've cut my Google advertising budget by 35% because it is too costly to advertise for exposure. I've noticed Google's earnings were lower for the 3rd Qtr. but they will never admit it was because of their algo change. If you put Bing and Yahoo together, they are creeping up on market share of total searches. This tells me Google is going in the wrong direction and it's only a matter of time before they realize this or risk losing customer's for good. Yet Google says it about the user experience, if so then stop listing the huge price comparison sites at the top because they all offer the same products and it's becoming redundant when you're looking for something different.

I love when these old threads are brought back from the dead. Anyway, as to the idea that Google is hurting itself by removing an Adsense publisher from the search index: The search guys do not talk to the Adsense guys (and visa-versa) in any way. To do so would open Google up to all sorts of legal/monopoply/search manipulation liabilities. i have discussed this specific issue (in person) with Adsense employees, and they were very (VERY VERYYYYYY) clear that never the two (teams) shall meet..
