Well, regarding this, I had posted a while back about Yahoo just being another Bing...as Yahoo are using Microsoft's search technology to power their searches. So in fact, I reckon that there is only Google and Bing in reality in terms of the bigger players in this area.

ill say, but the truth for my niche anyways is that googles search pulls up worse results than bing. I find that I get sites more related to what im looking for in bing these days.

All of them use almost same parameters for ranking pages; however I think the weight would be different. Then the indexing methods etc would be different I would guess.

At present all the three major search engines mentioned are using the links as well as evaluating the contents of the websites for giving them rankings but Google is number one at doing this professionally.

    Yahoo
    1. Links
    2. Tags
    3. Content

    Bing
    1. Links
    2. Content
    3. Tags

    Google
    1. Content
    2. Links
    3. Tags (if at all relevant)

This is a very broad outline and I appreciate there are many more factors which come into play, however Yahoo and Bing are much easier to manipulate - Yahoo being easiest.

As mentioned, Bing users the same technology as Yahoo although it does appear to be slightly more evolved, although not on the same scale as Google by any stretch of the imagination.

Hmm... what about the kind of links that is preferred by the 3 search engines:
    • High PR versus quantity
    • Industry related versus general links
    • Site wide links
