I wanted to post about it not so long ago. I mean about the captcha not working. Also found that weird.

Yes the captcha is not actually required. I believe I found that out when I was browsing with my images off and I happened to submit my url in google using http://www.google.com/addurl.html

I did not know that google also did not care about what url was submitted. Google should fix that, I think.

    Yea, nice investigation.
I tried to submit only words not url and input wrong captcha also but it work.
Then, didn't input anything and push the submit button but it still work also.

My opinion is that google is not need this page anymore because their crawl machine will index url automatically, therefore this page is intend for newbie webmaster like me :D

I think it's done to prevent spammers from auto-submitting their websites. The message shows as correct every time, but actually the website is not accepted.

It remains a live page because if they removed it, they would receive 10,000 emails a day asking how to submit to Google.

They can make an announcement on that page and tell to people how to "submit" a page without a fake form..

I would say find your favorite article directory and submit your article only there because Google has changed the algorithms and it penalizes the duplicated articles.

I think it's quite innocent and it's just *not* filtering out invalid submissions rather then excluding genuine sites. At worst, invalid submissions will just get a 404 from the spider anyway so it's not that big a deal for them to fix.

If it was some conspiracy then they'd have the form working.

Anyway, of course it's not essential if you're going to be tracked down by the spider anyway, but I'm pretty sure the form does work as I've submitted new domains I've just registered with no backlinks and just a holding page and they get listed. They don't get listed until I add it though or someone links to me.
