Looks as though Google and Yahoo are "tweaking" their results to accomodate the big corporate DINOSAURS who were too stupid or lazy to do SEO. Looking at the results shows this to be somewhat true. Analyzing the sites that are moving into the top spots and it is evident that they have NO traditional SEO methods employed. Anyone want to comment on this?
In the month of Feb I could notice this for some of my sites, but this month onwards things have really improved. I see my site getting into top 10 for at least 30%-50% of the pages/keywords. What kind of impact do you see on your site?
It's all about authority. They may not have traditional SEO, but I bet they have tens of thousands of incoming links and recognizable brand image.
How does not recognizing old SEO techniques make Google irrelavant? I always thought relevance had to do with searchers finding what they are looking for, not whether or not your site is on top because you bought a load of links and repeated your keyword 20 times.
Bingo! Don't the webmaster guidelines say you shouldn't partake in SEO to unnaturally inflate your rankings? (mostly sarcasm because I spend my days manipulating the search engines)
I found this with my website, we have made it totally SEO but now we are getting lower ranks then some sites with absolutley no SEO!
I'm really not seeing this. Bigger firms have more money to spend on advertising and when more people use your site, you get more links...if your site is worthy. Spend some money on Adsense or Yahoo Ads for about 6 months or so and you'll naturally get more links to your site just because of the broad exposure. And this all relates to what 1EightT and yfs1 are speaking of.
There are many factors affecting the rank of your site, # of backlinks, inter-site linking, quality of content are few other important ones to look at.
Well, the "site credibility" is always an important factor for Search Engines now-a-days, that's may be the reason why it seems that Yahoo and Google are accommodating the Big Corporate DINOSAURS. I have more than 3 sites that is far to be considered as Big Corporate Site, but they are dominating the SERPs; and it is because we have tons of Press releases, Site tie-ups and we've worked hard to establish the Sites' credibility.
yes i agree with gravis.. not only authority and links there are so many factors involved while calculating a page score..
i agree with the yahoo side but when i search on google , it's allways showing the most related site to me
But "ordinary" people like 'big dinosaurs' by itself (power of a sign or mark). I think that are natural mechanism of human behavior and the results doesn't require of tweaking.
I agree on that one. Those big ones get tons of links and plus they're old. So they have been around a long time. I saw some big sites' alexa showing early 90s. Those domains have been around even before google.
Hello, What press releases do you make? Which service do you use that they bring you many links? Thanks.
Make news worthy press releases specific to your industry. Submit to pr web and the other free pr sites (there is a list here). If bloggers and such find your press release worth while they will link to you.
