If I want to get good rankings results on Google Belgium, does it help if I buy a .be domain name instead of a dot com?

Generally no. Your domain will be treated just like any other domain name.

The TLD will not do any difference in these kind of things... Of course .com will always be better since it's easy for people to remember...

I think .be domain extension could bring you some advantage but you have to go along with these requirement

    - Get your site hosted under hosting located in Belgium
    - Get links from local Belgium site

    :) Hope this help

Google associates any site to a specific country,
    1) depending on ccTLD (.in, .be etc)
    2) depending up on the region of back-linking sites
    3) depending on the location of host server
    4) geo targeting in webmaster tools also plays a role

If you can follow these steps it will surely help you:)
If you buy a generic TLD like .com you can geo-target it to a specific country from Google webmaster tools.

    Can't agree more with 'coolseo36'

.TLD wont help your website ranking, Google treat all TLD the same ;)

Who told you that! "coolseo36" has already divided TLDS in ccTLD & generic TLD.
If you buy a .in domain & want to optimize it for Belgium then good luck to you!

By the way, there is no option to geo-target for ccTLDs in webmaster tools, because they are already assigned to particular countries. You can only geo-target generic TLDs.

hey, of course dude, thanx for clearing it!

    its getting interesting now:D

ccTLD of course helps for geo-target but what i ve also seen is,

though Yahoo uses the ccTLD and also observes the ccTLD of backlinks, google still depends on the IP of the server on which a site is hosted, to associate it with a specific country!...so u decide now.

plus, r u sure bout targeting .be?
coz...People want their site to be associated with a particular country, and want search engines to consider their site in country specific search results...coz they think they have a biggest audience in particular country...but most of the times the stats they have got, speak wrong...for e.g. AOL's biggest server is in Canada, meaning anyone anywhere in the world accessing the web through this server will look as though they are Canadian or north American...but its wrong...so check the real need of geolocation targeting:)

Google uses a package of signals such as the location of the server and TLD to determine which users may be interested in the content of the site.
