Some interesting links for people that haven't heard yet that Google may be launching something "Craig's List like". http://www.flickr.com/photos/dirson/55908013/ http://www.seroundtable.com/archives/002705.html http://www.seweso.com/blog/google-base2.png I've seen rumors they might be taking on eBay as well with auction style listings.
I was thinking maybe another product orientated catalogue type thing (Maybe a new froogle or something). An eBay alternative would make sense...
Good find Shawn. ZDNet has a similar and relevant article running on this same topic: http://news.zdnet.com/2100-9588_22-5914039.html It's possible to speculate that Google will venture into nearly anything Internet, ecommerce and computer related these days - because in time it will prove to be true it seems
Definitely. Id say look out eBay. Here comes Google with the free version. http://money.cnn.com/2005/10/25/technology/google_base.reut/index.htm http://abcnews.go.com/Technology/wireStory?id=1250375
I was just thinking about how every startup these days is vulnerable to Google's competition. Any great idea that has been implemented is in danger of being re-done by Google (the end product will probably be better than the original given the brains working at Google). Also, given their user reach, any newly launched service can kill the original almost overnight
Kind of ironic - Google continues to head into the direction of becoming a Yahoo or MSN type portal when the main reason for their popularity was the fact that they did good search and that's it - clean uncluttered interface and nothing more. They stepped in at a time when people wanted something simple and now it seems they are losing sight of that.
I think they have to be really carefull. The last thing they need is a bad vibe on the net trashing them. Unless ofcourse they will panelize these sites? (-:
Greed often has a way making corporate management loose site of what is import (i.e. what got them there).
Since I'm a chronic conspiracy theorist I've been tracking this since their September announcement. Screen shots of the UI can be found here: http://telendro.com.es/imagenes/base.gif Their real estate section is here: http://www.hrseo.com/img/google-base.jpg I know its not possible that Google would target existing online classified sites but it does seem to be a strange coincidence that one of my sites (in my sig) and a large group of other classified sites that I network with have experienced a huge drop in complex secondary search referrals. Most of us have also had a large percentage pages moved to the supplemental index. I'm just wondering if Jagger has tagged us as classified spam? -jay
Anybody want to buy a free classified advertising site? Ssssiiiiggghhhhh. . . First Jagger now this. . What's a classified ad guy to do? Oh well, it looks like time to focus on a different market. . . Is there any vertical that Google won't enter?
I posted this in another thread, but it seems better placed here. Do you think google is in danger of becoming the next most hated corporation to Microsoft? We love companies that do things for free like google search engine, but when they try to take over too many areas do we grow to hate them?
maybe if you submitted your content to google FIRST, then all others would get hit with dup content penalties? speculating.
The thing that I find strange is that they talk about it like it's something everyone else is speculating about...I haven't heard anything about a new service... Anybody else hear about anything like this?
