There isn't a way to tell for a domain that is expired. But if you suspect it might be banned for some reason, probably best to not use it. :)

hmm... this won't be enought because as far as i know, because the site: command works for PR>4 pages, but I would like to know how to see if a domain has been blacklisted.... and if subdomains are too or not for a blacklisted website.

    Thanks,

    Peace!

    Hi JackDa, welcome to DP.

"site:" command works for every listed site. It doesn't really matter how low or high its PR is. So, it would work to find out if the site is listed or not, but there's no way to really know if a site is "blacklisted" or not.

And if the domain was in fact "blacklisted", you can always have it "de-listed", by contacting GG and letting them know that you have changed whatever was "violating" their Webmaster Guidelines, or in this case, that you own the name now, and that you'll make all possible efforts to comply with the guidelines.

I've bought banned names before, and I tried to get them listed in google a couple of months before I realized that they may have been blacklisted.

I mailed webmaster @ google . com , explained that I had just bought the name(s), and attached the new whois information, and two days later googlebot visited the site and 4-5 days later it had spidered and indexed all 15 pages there.. :)

Fair enough advise, but personally I cannot see Google paying much attention to your email. Like Shawn said, if you have any doubts it could be blacklisted, then don't risk it.

But it looks like they do that.. :)

I've personaly experienced that two-three times, and I've heard of several other cases to.

As long as you can provide them with the updated whois info (with renewal/reg date) to prove that you did recently aquire the domain, it looks like it works.
www.whois.sc is a nice site for finding things like that..

The last time I tried it was three weeks ago for a name I had captured 3-4 months earlier.
I had tried to link to it from a lot of different sites, but googlebot did completely ignore it.
Two days after I had mailed webmaster @ google, googlebot visited the site, and 4-5 days later the entire site was spidered and indexed.

It may have been a coincidence, or maybe not...
Google works in mysterious ways... :D

As I heard...expired domain has very low value for SERP banned or not, with good PR or not.

Believe me... they DO pay attention to your email. I've done it a couple of times myself. :)

Just be polite and make sure you ARE complying with their guidelines. Remember that they are always on the look for up to date, high quality sites. It wouldn't hurt to also take a look (and even quote in the email) at the ten points included in the Google Philosophy page.

I'm making a website using an expired domain, it has many old links, will see if it can regain the PR without feeding any new link.

It won't. Those links aren't counted by Google anymore. You need to get new backlinks, or you won't even get indexed.

Are you sure? Google shouldn't be so picky.

The links wont show up in google for expired domains, but
I'm pretty sure that those backlinks will be counted by google when it finds a live site at your domain again...
