I believe that I posted my question regarding the Google backlinks issue I'm having in the incorrect categeory yesterday and it didn't get any repolies, so I'll try here to see if anyone can help. After I read another thread on how to check your site's backlinks according to Google, I thought I would take a look to see who links to me . I performed the recommended search by typing "link: mydomain" in the Google searchbox and then "X" number of links were displayed. Then following another poster's advice I proceeded to look to see what was indicated in webmaster tools and see who was linking to my site. In webmaster tools, I expected to find more backlinks, which I did, but I also found that some of the links that were displayed from my previous search using the search box link: mydomain search were not included in the list displayed in webmaster tools. What's going on here and why were these omitted? Could we take this to mean that some of the links from the first search are not current or no longer count?
Because Google doesn't let you know about all of the links it has to you, to be honest your going to have more backlinks then both of those methods are showing you..
Yahoo site explorer doing well to track those back links. If you need a more complete result, try SEO spyglass.
