Google Backlinks are dramatically dropping

It seems there is a backlinks update and my site is showing a big drop...from 347 (using link:www...) to 100 or 99 (hasn't settled). Is this happening to anyone else? I'm wondering if it has something to do with the caffeine update.

i don't think its even accurate. It could exist while the stats do not show it.

Are your links permanent? When your links are not, they could dissapear suddenly. It may affect your SEO.

No. They are all organic links. I don't exchange or buy links.

My guess is this is a fairly new site. Google doesn't show backlinks to new sites for several months. And when they do, they only show quality links. Typically Google only shows about 5-10% of the links you will see on Yahoo or MSN.

Be patient and keep working at getting those one-way links to your site!

Were those backlinks from forum signatures if so then these disappear and reappear after some time.

The site is 9 years old.

Some are forum sigs, just not this many.
I'm wondering if Google is making some changes regarding backlinks, that's all.

My links also dropped, but that actually was a refresh of my ibls because i was getting couple hundreds of ibls from signature of a forum which i changed it a month ago getting out the links to my site. So, this was more a update of backlinks.

I am seeing a drop and confirm what is happening. Our site has been around since 2003. I am also seeing old serps from months ago so I think Google is playing around before caffeine.

    caffiene?

I seem to remember Matt Cutts saying that even power users would see little difference.
