    link: command is how basically backlinks are checked.

    Of course you can get more accurate figures from google webmaster tool or even better details from Yahoo Explorer.

    When we talk about a backlink update we refer to links seen by the link: command that is updated with the pr , the other links are updated from to time to more regularly.And no change here.
