I heard that following the latest Penguin update that Google is now only counting links from the same source once. For example if you have 1000 links from say DP forums, this will only count as one link? The idea is to reduce spamming of the indexes. Just wondered if this may be true?
Yes, as far I read for last few weeks, this is true. But, back links from DP or similar forum is important for direct traffic as well.
It depends where on a site those links come from. Sidebars, footers.. yep, site wide links are not performing all that well, but.. in content links that on different pages from a site with some auth, and they certainly will be counted. Saying that multiple links from a single site are not counted is an incorrect statement.
Backlinks from digitalpoint are not being counted because they are nofololow. You can use digitalpoint for learning, helping other or getting traffic
This isn't quite right - multiple links from same source always counts as one, however if there are more links pointing from same website (in this case authority website), this mean that website is important. Don't worry about do-follow and no-follow, those links are treated differently, but even no-follow links counts.
counting all links as one is an old algorithm update, regarding the notifications that people got in webmaster tools, Matt Cuts said that it something that google measured a long time ago, only now they decided to expose it to the users.
