I was surprised to see that my site had only 4 backlinks on google while I know I have a lot more out there some with an ok PR, some not the site in question is rudate.com the query used to check backlinks was "link:rudate.com". If I search for "rudate.com" I have hundreds of external pages indexed. Anyone knows why that is?

Google only shows a fraction of back links- I think the common thought is that they dont want to give away all the details of what goes into determining a website's rank or PR.

General rule of thumb, MSN and Yahoo are more accurate.
Take a look at the tool @ www.uptimebot.com and you should get an idea of what the differences are.
