I don't think they can ever completely perfect such a system, but they have been going after both buying AND selling links for years. People who either buy or sell links need to be very, very careful.
Its very hard for guys like me to build backlinks... 1. Linkexchange were never so effective. 2. If my PR is 0 no PR site would like to exchange links with me. 3. Now PR is such a factor, like google gives PR to a site based on quality relevant backlinks a site has. 4. Will any site with pagerank would add my site if i request them to add me so that my PR and rankings will improve? 5. What are other free ways to build backlinks other than directory submissions, forum postings, blog posting and article submissions. 6. If links or link building services or SEO services are not hired, will google give me PR and keyword rankings?
There is a very simple and very effective way that Google could use to wipe out link selling, but because they have not implemented it, leads me to believe they are not that serious about it. If they were serious about it, then they could just stop exporting PR to the toolbar, and move it to webmaster tools. Then everyone would have to log in to there webmaster tools account to check there PR. Most people know how easy it is to fake a screenshot, and nobody will give a potential link buyer there webmaster tools account UN and PW to verify if the screen shot is real. So "no sale" problem fixed. But they haven't done that, so I do not think they are serious. Cheers James
My idea would be to find relevance between links which are next to each other. Like in signatures, if you have links which have no relevance to others in ur sig, then it shudnt be counted.
This is the most simple, clear and correct answer. But many people are not getting it. Google is not against buying/selling links because it is the online business and can never be closed, but all they want is to put nofollow tag otherwise those links will affect their SERP. Put more effort on content and quality than PR.
u r right if google will offer something then surely they can win but GOOGLE can do what they want. Adwords is an example. What if a site owner has 3-4 website links which his/her owns then how GOOGLE will consider those links?
google penalized my site for excessive link building across 3 sites - it penalized all the three sites but later i again got 2 of those sites indexed but third one is still penalized .
