Recently, Google announce a preview release of Google Friend Connect, a service that helps website owners grow traffic by enabling any site on the web to easily provide social features for its visitors.

Visitors to any site using Google Friend Connect will be able to see, invite, and interact with new friends, or, using secure authorization APIs, with existing friends from social sites on the web, including Facebook, Google Talk, hi5, orkut, Plaxo, and more.

Looking into this it looks promising.
So do a lot of things google puts out.
Looking promising and being the next big hit are completely different things.

Thers not much info about this for such a important area - social networking. I have to think the press release is premature since I can find nothing else about except artivcles based on the release. And after read all those and the included link on cnet, washington post, etc., I have to wonder who's apple Ingrid Michaelson is bobbing for? Never heard of her before but her site is going pr 8 next update.

I took a really fast look at it..
Seems to be bad news for those who own small social networks.
Another Titan to compete with as everyone helps it grow.

I wanted to register, but it did not work. I believe they are still working on it and it is not done to get a membership.

I read about this on cnn site and this looks promising. However I am overwhelmed by the flood of social networking sites now, I am sure soon folks would reject most of the sites and remain loyal to few only. how much inroads would google make with friends connect remains to be seen !!!!

    Thx
