I have heard that Google has recently announced +1 Button same as Facebook having Like Button. What is the purpose behind introducing this new feature to Google Search Engine and how it will be beneficial to Google SE Users!

It is not clear what it will totally do or how it will benefit the world yet, but it seems kind of worthless. Maybe it will amount to something, I don't know. Just seems kind of lame.

Well Google is just copying Facebook and think it might be popular as the likes on Facebook are popular. However it is a complete waste of time and knowledge on google's part. I dont think it i any way useful in SEO or SERPs, then why to introduce such a thing. I guess it is some kind of diversion for the people who are annoyed and angry because of the panda system introduced by google. Many of them have even lost interest in making money from optimizing sites because of panda theory :)

it is simply a small button next to each search result which when clicked on will show the users approval of that site thus refining the search results with user reviews.

I see it getting hammered pretty easily by black-hatters. I wonder what Google is going to do to make sure it's not exploited.

Google has planned to add +1 Button in their SERP. It is just to value the result by users. The result getting more + will be considered as the best and will be displayed at top in SERP. This is as Like button in Facebook
