it will not help you to get better serp because analitics only counts your hits. it will not effect the seo
Google analytics will help you a lot to keep records of sites ranking and total traffic of the website.
The only bad thing about it is that it is javascript and some people block javascript and you get the wrong results... p.l.u.r.
it is just sats program that will track from where your traffic is comming.By detail stats u can optimize your content and improve serps
Agree, Analytics is a good program, but as Angelus mention, the java script can be blocked by the visitor.

I wish they would make direct links to the referring sites though. Any opinions why they haven't done that? It was the first thing I looked for when they rolled out the update.

Google analytics help SEO in giving the total traffic of the site and also give the source of the traffic in your site weather referral or organic.
Google Analytics does much more than what is discussed here, the irony is , most webmasters are unable to use it to its full capacity and think it to be not so useful. As someone said, it is indeed a webmasters best friend/ Some of the activities that it can do are as follows : a) Keep visitor count, referrer source, time of visit , bounce rate, entrance pages, exit pages, geographic segmentation of traffic and other traffic related data b) Keep track of search engine referrers, keywords that send traffic, keywords that convert, page views from keywords and other SEO data c) Adwords data - It can be integrated with Adwords and you can get Impressions, visits, CTR, CPC, conversion rate, cost of conversion, ROI etc d) This can also calculate all the above mentioned information for your other paid advertisement campaigns e) provides insight to your content performance, your web layout performance etc f) Track all ecommerce data and details g) Gives idea of your visitors settings like browsers useed, JS enabled/disabled, resoultion of monitors, and similar data h) It also allows comparison of data between periods The ones mentioned above are just some of the points, there is much more to Google Analytics if you can use it to full capacity
Interestingly, I installed analytics on one of my sites and went from #3 where I had been for 3 months to #1 for my main key word. Could it be Analytics? or the fact that I made a change to all of those pages and Google likes change? Not sure.
Analytics has got nothing to do with rankings of ur site.. it's just an analytical tool like many other.. The change in rankings might be because u made some changes in the page
