Google and redirects

I started a new site about blue widgets, been adding a page around every other day, now at around 50 content pages about blue widgets. of course nowhere to be seen in Google.

Then as a test I put 1 single blue widget page up on a totally unrelated site, they could hardly be further apart actually. and wham withina month its #19 in Google on thw very competitive blue widget phrase I was targeting.

Question is if I put up 10 more blue widget pages at site 2 to get it up to a top 10 placement, and then put permanent redirects to my real bluewidget site, would that help my new blue widget site take over those positions?

You would probably be better just getting the second sight right and linking it to the first site.
