Google accepts Adverts; why should Google differentiate between a text advert and a text link? If I pay for a text advert is that OK? But a text link is wrong in Google's eyes?

    Come on Now ...

YOU know the difference between advertising and chasing PR ;)

    Bottom line...

You can add your txt links and banners wherever you please..
    The difference is simple...
If its Not relevant to the site its sitting on
then chances are you arent advertising but chasing that sites PR
and you will get no Link juice for it ...

    thx

"If its Not relevant to the site its sitting on" - personally I only work on links from relevant sites!

But you are missing the point......

What is the difference between .....
    a) Contacting a web owner and asking him to link back with a paragraph / snippet/ article about our product or service (let us assume this it is a relevant site and we are offering a complementary service). So this is all about relevant information and useful hyperlink. No payment involved.
    b) Paying the web owner for the same useful link in the paragraph / snippet / article

The surfer finds the hyperlink useful in either case (and Google wants relevant hyperlinks). So why should Google penalise approach b) ? How can Google arbitrate?
